It was perhaps for the first time that uniformed Sangh swayamsevaks displayed RSS ghosh (band) at the Wagah Border in Amritsar on September 6. It was a surprise for both the security personnel of India and Pakistan and also for the people of both the countries who visited the border that day to see the retreat and the ceremonial lowering of the flag ceremony. The ghosh display touched the heart of the audience and they enjoyed it very much. After the display of ghosh, the swayamsevaks were full of enthusiasm. After the retreat ceremony, the people assembled there danced on the tune of ghosh and also sang patriotic songs.

The final frontier, Wagah about 28 kms. from Amritsar is the only border crossing between India and Pakistan. It’s an interesting experience especially at sunset when the ‘retreat’ ceremony takes place with the BSF on the Indian side of the Border. The changing of the guards and the ceremonial lowering of the flags ceremony is carried out with great pomp.

A group of 40 ghoshvadaks of Delhi was on a tour of Amritsar from September 5 to 7. The group reached Amritsar on September 5 and visited the historic places of the city. They also visited the Golden Temple. The next day the group attended a ghosh training class and in the evening they went to Wagah Border. They displayed ghosh there for about 15 minutes before a large number of audiences. Even the security personnel and people of Pakistan enjoyed the ghosh display patiently.

It was a surprise for the Indian security officers at the border. After the ghosh display was over an army officer went to Shri Jagdishji, Delhi Prant in charge of Ghosh, and enquired from him about the training the swayamsevaks get. Shri Jagdishji told him that they are all RSS swayamsevaks and learn the ghosh in daily shakhas.

On September 7, the group visited the Durgyana Temple and played Durga Rachana in the premises of the temple. They also visited the Jallianwala Bagh where Shri Chopraji, Praudh Karya Pramukh of Punjab, apprised them of the historic background of Jallianwala Bagh. The swayamsevaks paid tribute to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh. It impressed even the other tourists who were present at the Jallianwala Bagh that day. The whole Jalianwala Bagh was echoed with the slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai.
