Prestigious V M Korath Award to M V Kamat

: Noted Writer and Journalist Shri M V Kamat has been selected for the prestigious award in memory of the famous Journalist V M Korath – For his contribution towards Nationalistic Journalism

 

The Award is dedicated in the name of V M Korath by Tapasya Kala Sahithya Vedi for outstanding Journalists. The award carries a cash component of Rs 1 lakh ,a citation and a statuette designed by artist T. Kaladharan

Born in 1921, Kamath is one of India’s best known journalists and writers. He was a correspondent in Bonn, Paris, and Washington for The Times of India; editor of the Free Press Journal; and, till his retirement in 1981, editor of Asia’s oldest features magazine, The Illustrated Weekly of India.Author of 48 books, Kamath was awarded the Padma Bhushan—India’s third-highest civilian honour—in 2004.

M.V. Kamath also served as the chairman of India’s public service broadcaster, Prasar Bharati Corporation, which runs Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Manipal, which is a few kilometres from his home-town Udupi, is where Kamath now lives, after moving out of Kalyanpur House in Khar two years ago.

The award will be conferred on October 14^th by Shri L K Advani in a public function at Kozhikode, informed Tapasya functionaries. Shri P.G.Haridas, P.K.Ramachandran and noted Journalist Hari S Kartha were present during the press conference.
