BANGALORE: Sunday mornings in Bangalore might never be the same again. The Chief Minister and his entourage of city in-charge ministers and civic heads will do the inspection rounds every Sunday. This was announced by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa during his first inspection tour.

The CM will be accompanied by some Cabinet colleagues, MLAs and heads of BDADA, BBMP, Metro and BWSSB on these tours, which will begin at 8 am and conclude by 11 am.

Yeddyurappa said that statements made by the officials at the time of inspection will be recorded and used for progress review during subsequent visits.

He said that the Sunday city tour is aimed not only at inspecting the progress of works but also at ensuring that quality is maintained. The CM said that the tours were planned on Sundays to reduce any inconvenience to the public. The next such tour will have to wait for the legislature session in Belgaum to get over, he said.

Yeddyurappa said that sufficient funds have been allocated in the budget for city development and the civic agencies should make full use of it. “There are enough funds this year and we will provide more funds for the development of Bangalore’s infrastructure in the next budget as well,” he said.

“I don’t have a magic wand to fix everything,” said Yeddyurappa. Speaking after inspecting work at the Magadi junction on the outer ring road, Yeddyurappa said that his government can’t fix the damage done by the inaction of previous governments overnight, but it was trying its best. “There has been great progress in infrastructure work in the last six months and within the next six months Bangaloreans will see the difference. We will change the face of the city,” he said.

This change, the CM promised, wouldn’t be at the cost of Bangalore’s ‘Garden City’ tag. “We will do our best to ensure the city’s green cover is maintained,” he said.

The CM who inspected work on the flyover on Summanahalli junction and underpass work at Nayandahalli junction, instructed BDADA officials to speed up the work. Yeddyurappa said that once the 844-metre stretch is complete it would reduce the travel distance by 12 km.
