MALAPPURAM: A group
of CPM activists manhandled the reporter and the cameraman of Manorama
News channel covering the programme of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan
at Puthanathani on Tuesday.S Maheshkumar, 29, the reporter of
the channel and V J Moncy, 33 the cameraman, were beaten up by the
party workers for beaming a news item highlighting the absence of
Ponnani candidate Hussein Randathani in the LDF meet attended by the
Chief Minister.Both were taken to a private hospital at Valanchery for first aid and later referred to the Co-operative Hospital here.The Valanchery police have registered a case against the suspected CPM activists.The victims alleged that they were targeted by the party men on the direction of the CPM area secretary.Office-bearers of the Malappuram Press Club condemned the attack.
