Rahul’s qualifications -Congress serves legal notice to English daily

via Devinder Thakur published on May 1, 2009

The Congress has served a legal notice to an English paper for
publishing “wild allegations and sly insinuations ” on the educational
qualifications of party general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Congress spokes person Abhishek Singhvi said the newspaper editor
wrote the said article falsely, recklessly and with complete disregard
for the truth. The notice has been given by Mr Singhvi , a senior
Supreme Court lawyer against the newspaper for questioning the M.Phil.
degree of the AICC general secretary in development economics from
Cambridge University.

Quoting a letter from from the university , which stated that Mr
Gandhi was a student at the institution  as a member of Trinity College
from October 1994 to July 1995, the notice said it is clear that Mr
Gandhi received his degree.

Note:  It is not clear if the attendance at the Trinity College
from October 1994 to July 1995 did result in  a degree being awarded.
If so a degree rather than letter from the university would have
carried more weight. It would be interesting to wait for the outcome of
the case
