Why Rajiv Gandhi allowed Hindus to worship Lord Rama in that so called ‘Mosque’?
New Delhi: It was Rajiv Gandhi who ordered the locks on the Ram Janmabhoomi Babri Masjid in Ayodhya removed. Until then, a priest had been permitted to perform puja once a year for the idols installed there in 1949.
Former Prime Minister VP Singh in his deposition before Liberhan Commission sheds more light into the stand of Congress then. Â
“V.P. Singh agreed that the opening of the locks of the disputed structure in 1989 was a “landmark” in the Ayodhya movement. He felt that the Congress had allowed shilanyas to be performed with the intention of winning over the Hindu vote because it saw the formation of an axis between the Janata Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party with the Left’s support as a serious threat. He said that the Rajiv Gandhi government had asked the VHP to go in for shilanyas because Congress circles were concerned about the possibility of a swing of the Hindu vote. “
(- Of Ayodhya and the Congress )
Rajiv Gandhi in 1989 allowed the Shilanyas ceremony, in which the first stone of the planned temple was put in place.
Questions to Congress who now make hue and cry over Ayodhya
1) Why Rajiv Gandhi allowed Hindus to worship in a ‘Mosque’ as claimed by Congress now?
2) The Congress who now accuse Narasimha Rao for his lack of action ready to condemn the action of Rajiv?
