Hindu man wants to adopt wife’s religion

RAJKOT: A Hindu man has applied to adopt Christian religion in the local church. As per the rules and regulations set by Gujarat government the church authorities have informed Rajkot district magistrate H S Patel and forwarded the application to the authorities concerned.

According to sources Chandu Chauhan, a middle-aged man, residing at Railnagar street number 2, wants to convert as his wife Roshni is a Christian. Recently he expressed his feelings before CNI Church authorities here.

Gujarat government had recently enacted a law on conversions under which if anyone residing in Gujarat e wants to convert the district magistrate needs to be informed.

According to collectorate sources once collector gives the permission the application will be sent to the police station concerned. Police will take the statement of the person who wants to convert and verify whether he is not being converted forcibly by anyone.

In Rajkot district five persons have submitted such applications for conversion after the Act was implemented in 2008.
