KOCHI: After charge-sheeting Soofiya Madhani, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has unearthed clinching evidence of PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madhani’s involvement in the Kalamassery bus-burning case.
Sources in the investigation team said they had collected crucial ‘digital evidence’ of Madhani’s role in the burning of a bus owned by Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation (TNSRTC) on September 9, 2005 at Kalamassery.
“Though Madhani was in Coimbatore central jail at the time of the incident, we have managed to collect crucial evidence to substantiate his involvement,” the sources said. The SIT tracked the calls made from a cell phone number taken in the name of one Yusuf, said to be a businessman, and surreptiously used by Madhani while he was in jail. It is learnt that the Coimbatore jail authorities registered a case against Soofiya after she was caught on the CCTV installed in the jail attempting to hand over a SIM card and mobile phone to Madhani.
Sources said three calls were made from this number, after the burning of the bus, and it was on this number that Soofiya contacted Madhani after Nazeer informed her of the accomplished mission of burning the bus.
“The team tracked the call details from this particular number and the tower location clearly indicated it was from Coimbatore Central Prison,” the sources said adding that Madhani used the SIM to call Soofiya, a relative and his advocate.
Police sources said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA)was monitoring developments in the bus-burning case as certain accused in the case played a significant role in the Kozhikode blasts.
“The SIT is expecting to collect more evidence related to the case once Thadiyantavide Nazeer comes into its exclusive custody for interrogation,” the sources said.
