Rashtriya Sevika Samithi calls for protecting culture
ERODE: Rashtriya Sevika Samithi, women’s wing of RSS, has appealed to people, especially the women, to protect the ancient culture, heritage and tradition of the country.
The samithi’s three-day state-level conference in connection with the centenary of its former president Saraswati Tai Apte began here on Friday. Over 1,200 representatives from all over the State are taking part in the meet.
Â
The samithi’s state general secretary Gomathi Naveen told reporters that, “Our main aim is to consolidate women power to protect our ancient culture and tradition, as it is at stake due to the invasion of alien culture through the media. We have been campaigning among girls not to wear T-shirts, jeans, other modern dresses and cut their hair according to western style.†She asserted that the samithi’s members will not stage any agitations in this regard but just campaign in a peaceful manner in their respective areas.
Â
To a question on the delay in giving 33 per cent reservation to women in Parliament and state legislatures, she said that women have even a right to claim 50 per cent quota as they form nearly half of the total population.
Â
Noting that women are presently occupying some of the highest positions as President, Lok Sabha Speaker, Leader of the Opposition, etc she pointed out that, “this does not mean that all women have attained progress and got their due share in society. That is why we are trying to empower women by running several vocational training centres and involving them in various social service activities.â€
