RTI activist files another complaint against Ministry of Culture ad which shows state to be a part of neighbouring country

Delhi: Looks like Pakistan needn’t fight yet another war for Kashmir. Going by the map of India in an advertisement that was published by the Ministry of Culture two years back, the state already belongs to them. And despite repeated complaints, no action has been taken to rectify it.

The Ministry had published the ad for the longest solar eclipse in India in a leading newspaper on July 19, 2009 with the distorted map that showed most of Jammu and Kashmir in Pakistan. Manish Bhatnagar, an RTI activist, had immediately complained about the incident to the commissioner of police. He was given a reference number and was told to meet the Joint Commissioner. But even after two years, no action has been taken. Bhatnagar on Sunday again filed a complaint to the commissioner.

“It’s very sad that at a time when the people of India are worried about Kashmir, the Government itself is so irresponsible about this sensitive issue. The advertisement was by the National Council of Science Museums which comes under the Ministry of Culture. It traced the route of the eclipse on an India map where the upper part of Kashmir which is occupied by Pakistan has been shown outside the international boundary of India,” said Bhatnagar.

 “I have sent a reminder about my complaint to the commissioner of Delhi police and asked why any action has not been taken in such serious issue,” the activist said. None of the police officers commented on the issue.
