Advani hails Chouhan, Modi for uplifting weaker sections

Senior BJP leader LK Advani said all the BJP-ruled States were doing outstanding work by successfully running various schemes for the upliftment of poor. The BJP leader also praised Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for their untiring efforts towards the betterment of weaker sections of the society.

He was addressing a convention of the newly elected party corporators here on Sunday. He called upon the party workers to uproot corruption and work for the welfare of the people.

Addressing a convention of the newly-elected office bearers of the State’s civic bodies, the former Deputy Prime Minister said that power was not the mission of BJP, and it has always stood for the welfare of the people.

Advani said he was happy to see that the BJP Governments in different States were truly working for the upliftment of the poor.

He said that while in the Parliament and State Assemblies, party leaders promote party ideology but it was not so in the case of civic bodies where the elected representatives are required to present an example by working honestly for the welfare of the people.

The BJP leader said that if the elected representatives fail to serve the people in the right earnest, the party suffers and therefore it becomes mandatory for the representatives of the civic bodies to do their job honestly and perfectly.

Advani said Chouhan’s ‘Ladli Laxmi Yojana’, a scheme meant for the girl child, was praiseworthy since it has benefited a large number of girls in the State.

Expressing concern over the prevailing corruption in all sections of the society, the BJP leader and former deputy premier Lal Krishna Advani on Sunday said even the judiciary and Press were not untouched by this scourge.

“Twenty-five to 30 years back, nobody could contemplate corruption in the judiciary but now it is commonplace while elections have emerged as a means for ill-gotten wealth for media,” Advani said. Pointing out that in the beginning of the post-Independence era, people stayed clear of corruption and the malaise affected the bureaucracy alone, the ex-Home Minister said and added that it later spread to politics, judiciary and the Press.

Corruption was becoming deep-rooted and media were exploiting this in the past three elections, Advani alleged.

Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan told the corporators to bring transparency in their work because they have direct connection with the common people. State BJP president and MP Narendra Singh Tomar informed that a total of 82 corporators of the party from minority community have been elected. There were 5,059 posts of which the party won in 2,396 posts, he informed.
