Who is the mysterious ‘Marxist VIP’ behind Killiroor Sex Scandal Case ?
VIP row to re-erupt in CPM
Pioneer News Service | Kochi
With
the battle between the factions in the CPI(M), particularly between
Politburo member and Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan and the rest of
the State leadership, reaching its zenith on Saturday, the
Achuthanandan faction is now sure to use every ounce of its energy to
corner the strong opponents.
Indications are already there
that one of these battlefronts would be over the allegation of the role
of the ‘VIP’ in the sensational Kiliroor sex scandal case, which had
unsettled a particular Minister from the camp opposed to Achuthanandan.
With
the revelation by Achuthanandan’s confidante and IAS official Suresh
Kumar on Sunday that the Chief Minister’s private secretary, S
Rajendran had concealed a very important file relating to the Kiliroor
case from the Chief Minister for several months, it is now certain that
the controversy over the ‘VIP’ would soon begin to rock the CPI(M).
It
was Achuthanandan himself, when he was Opposition leader, who alleged
that Sari S Nair, the victim in the Kiliroor sex scandal, had grown
terribly uneasy after a ‘VIP’ had visited her in the hospital. Reports
had alleged that this VIP was a senior leader of the CPI(M) who was now
a Minister. Incidentally, this Minister belonged to the neo-liberalist
faction in the party led by State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, arch
rival of the Chief Minister.
It had also been reported that this
‘VIP’ had visited in a bid to suppress the revelation of the alleged
involvement in the scandal of the sons of this VIP and another senior
party leader. Achuthanandan during his blistering campaigns for the
last Assembly elections had declared that he would make the culprits in
the sex abuse cases, including the Kiliroor sex scandal, walk the
streets handcuffed if he came to power.
However, this never
happened and he even withdrew the allegation he himself had made about
the ‘VIP’ as a ceasefire effort in the party sponsored by the central
leadership was on. But according to his close aides, Achuthanandan had
never dropped his commitment though he had to take a mellowed stand due
to party compulsion.
Observers say that the ‘VIP’ controversy,
which Achuthanandan had buried once, could come up again dealing a
heavy blow to the neo-liberalists. The Pinarayi faction would have to
worry much as allegations had already come up against the son of this
‘VIP’ in relation to his reported role in the Rs 200-crore financial
fraud committed by young fraudster Sabarinath and associates in
Thiruvananthapuram.
Suresh Kumar alleged on Sunday that S
Rajendran, who opened a new battle front against Achuthanandan with his
allegation that the Chief Minister was in the grip of a coterie, had
kept hidden a letter from him to the Union Home Minister requesting a
CBI probe at DIG-level into the Kiliroor sex scandal case. Observers
say Suresh Kumar, who had obviously talked with Achuthanandan, had made
the allegation with the deliberate decision to reopen the ‘VIP’
controversy which would push the Pinarayi faction to the defensive.
A
petition was submitted to the Chief Minister in June 2006, the month
after Achuthanandan came to power, by Sari’s parents and the
office-bearers of the action council formed to press for a serious
probe into her death four years ago, through her daughter Sneha.
Another memorandum was submitted in the following month by the
relatives of Anagha, the girl from Kaviyoor, who had committed with
three others of her family in connection with the Kiliroor scandal.
Both the memorandums had demanded a probe into the role of the sons of
the Ministers.
Observers are of the opinion that the terribly
weakened Achuthanandan faction is assured that the Kiliroor-Kaviyur
cases are powerful enough to cause damage to the official leadership.
The effort is to establish that Achuthanandan was unable to act on the
cases and also to fulfil his promise to the people with respect to sex
scandal cases due to the interference in his office by the Pinarayi
faction in his office.
