Rahim has been accused in cases like manufacture of arms and ammunition, human trafficking, smuggling of elephant tusks and sandalwood, stabbing and wounding a policeman, etc. The search for Rahim intensified following a complaint registered in a case of car burglary.

According to reports, Rahim was involved in the manufacture of arms like guns and swords, which he would sell to forest robbers and gangs of miscreants. He was arrested in 1982, in connection with the same.

Through other criminals he met during the course of his imprisonment sessions, Rahim got links that helped him get active in vehicle robbery. These contacts gave him ample avenues to settle deals in states outside Kerala.
