V.N. Gopalakrishnan felicitated for cultural Journalism

V.N. Gopalakrishnan, a Powai-based freelance journalist and social activist has been felicitated at a function organised by the Kendriya Nair Samskarika Sangh, the apex body of 30 Nair welfare associations and societies in Maharashtra on February 27, 2011. The occasion was also to recognise forty years of his service in journalism and public relations. A compilation of 100 articles on spirituality, philosophy, history and culture contributed in various journals since 2008 was released on the occasion at the hands of H.H. Swami Krishnananda Saraswathi, Madathipathi of Ramadasa Ashram, Badlapur.

Shri. Gopalakrishnan started his journalistic career with Free Press Journal as Sub-editor in June 1971 and later joined the Synthetic & Artsilk Mills’ Research Association (SASMIRA) in June 1975 as Deputy Editor looking after its publications and public relations. In June 1983, he joined the Indian Merchants’ Chamber as Under Secretary in charge of its Journal and awards. In June 1988, he Falcon Publishing WWL (later known as Telegulf Directory Publications), Bahrain as Editor and served there till 2000. After returning to India, he served as Executive Secretary of All India Ball Bearing Merchants’ Association (AIBBMA) and Instruments Manufacturers & Dealers Association (IMDA). In June 2005, he joined Priyadarshni Academy as Chief Executive Officer and served till February 2009. Since then, he is contributing articles on spirituality, history and culture in various journals.

A post-graduate from Kerala University, he took a Diploma in Journalism from Mumbai. He has edited several journals including Man-made Textiles in India, Journal of the Indian Merchants’ Association, Arab Banking & Finance, Arab Agriculture, Made in the Arab World and few industry and trade journals. He has also contributed articles in leading journals both in India and abroad. His profile has been published in Marquis’ Who’s Who of the World.  Besides Planet Powai, he also contributes articles in Organiser Weekly, Bhavan’s Journal, Bal Vihar International Monthly, Verdict Weekly, Hindu Voice, Whiteline Journal, The Malayali Wings, Tattwa International, and few Web Portals including haindavakeralam.com, karmayog.org. globalmalayali.com etc.
