PERAVOOR: The Vayanur Vaireeghathakan temple here was burgled by an unidentified gang early on Tuesday morning. A gold chain of three sovereigns and other ornaments on the idol of the temple were stolen. The theft was first noted by a woman-devotee who reached the temple on Tuesday morning.


The doors of the outerwalls of the temple were broken. The temple was renovated 12 years ago. The police filed a case on the basis of a complaint filed by the temple committee secretary.

Police officials and finger-print experts reached the temple and collected evidence.

This was the second incident of temple theft that took place in the last couple of days in the region here.
