In a second such incident within a week, two letter bombs were found in a post office in the city on Thursday.

After spotting the two suspected sealed covers, a post office’s employees informed the police, who took the letter bombs away and defused them. Examination confirmed that they were letter bombs, police said. The Special investigation team set up to probe last week’s letter bomb blast and now in looking into the new case also.

A letter bomb of mild intensity burst at Manacaud Post office and another one at a shop in the city on September 21, ahead of President APJ Abdul Kalam’s visit to the city.

Two other letter bombs were also recovered and defused from that post office the same day.

Sources said the two letters received from the post offices on Thursday contained explosives with similar patterns of those recovered a week before.

The police, after the letter bomb episode last week, had issued warnings to the post offices to look for anything unusual and had urged to inform the police if any letters were found similar to the letters received earlier. The letters received in the post office on Thursday was 48 gm in weight but was only carrying five-rupee stamp on it and the addresses in the letter also raised suspicion.

In connection with the letter bomb case of last week, police had arrested Mohsin, a native of the Manacud. He was arrested following the seizure of a Belgium-made bullet from his house. He was remanded after the court denied bail to him.

The police have come to the conclusion that Mohsin, an engineering student, has links with the NDF as they have recovered some documents revealing the connection.
