Pathanamthitta: Hindu Aikyvedi will launch an agitation against the State Government and the Travancore Devaswom Board for the ‘‘failure’’ to provide basic facilities to Sabarimala pilgrims.

They said that with only 42 days left for the next pilgrim season, neither the State Government nor the Devaswom Board has implemented any project for improving the basic facilities for the pilgrims, despite big announcements made by the Government and the TDB.

Haridas said that the ensuing season will be a hard one for Ayyappa devotees. Even the maintenance work of the devaswom buildings at Sannidhanam and Pampa is yet to begin, he said.

The repairing and recarpeting work of the PWD roads have not started so far, Haridas said.

The Pampa Action Plan schemes were not implemented though the Central Government had sanctioned Rs 18 crore three years ago, Haridas said.

The Aikyvedi urged the State Government to prevail upon the KSEB to slash the three-times higher power tariff levied at Sannidhanam and Pampa since the exborbitant charges will ultimately be passed on to the pilgrims, he said.
