Kottayam: The Hindu Aikya Vedi has welcomed the directive issued by District Collector of Kottayam, refusing permission to set up a cathedral in Nagampadam by Heavenly Feast. Hailing the move, state secretary of Hindu Aikya Vedi MV Unnikrishnan remarked that the directive is a sign of victory of all legal remonstrations and protests staged by Hindu Aikya Vedi over several years.

Heavenly Feast has many illegal centres in Nagampadam that were not constructed according to prescribed parameters. The tribunal directive to remove these constructions has come after a protracted struggle by Hindu Aikya Vedi. The civic authorities are now forced to implement these directives. The directive from the Collectorate has been procured after great effort,” said Unnikrishnan.

Hailing the directive as a move towards the reinstating and restoration of faith of citizens in government bodies, in a democratic nation, Unnikrishnan said that Heavenly Feast is an Evangelical organization that has as its sole aim, religious conversion. Denying them permission to proceed with their activities in their unlawful construction would serve as a warning to those indulging in controversies regarding the issue of religious conversion.”

Seeking a ban on Heavenly Feast, Unnikrishnan said the Collector’s directive that “granting permission to the Evangelist organization to set up places of worship will only serve to destroy the peaceful atmosphere and communal harmony of the place” is apt.
“The government machinery should take steps to place a ban on Heavenly Feast. Also there should be a probe into those government officers, who went out of the way in extending help to Heavenly Feast,” he said.

Unnikrishnan also sought an inquiry by central agencies into the monetary status of Thanku Pastor, the convenor of Heavenly Feast and the reclamation of the land by the municipality for purposes of the town’s development.
