Terror man had close links with Madani’s wife: Police

via VR Jayaraj | Kozhikode - Daily Pioneer published on March 10, 2009

Even as the CPI(M),
leader of the ruling LDF in Kerala, is trying hard to establish a
strong political relationship with Abdul Nasser Madani’s PDP even by
endangering its relationship with the CPI with strange stands on the
Muslim-majority Ponnani Lok Sabha seat, reports have appeared directly
linking Madani with the terror operatives arrested in connection with
the blasts in Bangalore and other cities.

A report from
Bangalore said that the Karnataka Police had learned that the daughter
of Abdul Sattar alias Sainudden aka Sattar Bhai, considered to be the
South Indian commandant of Lashkar-e-Tayyeba, was attending school in
Kochi staying at the house of Madani’s wife Sufiya Madani.

According
to the Karnataka Police, Sainuddeen was the man behind the manufacture
of almost all the bombs that exploded in different Indian cities since
May last.

According to the records at Sharaf’ul Islam English
Medium Lower Primary School, Kaloor, Kochi, Sufiya Madani was the local
guardian of Sainuddeen’s daughter Fazeela Begum.

School
principal Sheeja had told the police that Fazeela had not been
attending school since October 28. The police hunt for terror
operatives, including Sainuddeen had started by the Kerala Police, in
October after the killing of four militants from Kerala in Jammu &
Kashmir in the first and second weeks of that month.

Sources in
the Kerala Police said these facts had been noted by the special
anti-terror squad that had looked into the case of terrorist network in
the State. The deposition by Yusuf alias Mani, son of Pandyan,
Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, who was arrested for terror links from Kannur,
also had included information about Fazeela staying at Sufiya Madani’s
place.

Mani, who had been staying at Sufiya’s place, had told
the police that a girl named Fazeela had been attending school from
that house. He had also said that the farther of the girl was one
Salam, who was often referred to as Saniuddeen, who was living in
Hyderabad. The statement given by principal Sheeja to DySP PK Ranjan,
CB-CID, Ernakulam had corroborated Mani’s statement, it is reported.

Mani,
while he was serving a seven-year term in a theft case, had been the
man taking care of Madani in the Coimbatore prison where he was lodged
in the 1998 serial blasts case. By the time his prison term was over,
Mani had converted into Islam and had worked at Sufiya’s purdah shop in
Kochi afterwards, by staying at her house.

Sheeja had also
told the police that Fazeela’s birth certificate had been from the
Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the place of birth was recorded as
MN Home, Maruval. She had also confirmed to the police that Sufiya,
shown as local guardian, was indeed Madani’s wife.

The Karnataka
Police had received all this information after they had taken
Sainuddeen into custody from Hyderabad. Follow-up investigations
yielded more information about Sainuddeen’s links with Sufiya and
Madani, reports said.

It is also said that Abdul Khader,
arrested by the police, had in his statement given detailed information
about the links of Madani and his wife with terror operatives,
including those already arrested and those living underground. The
report also said Khader had told the police that Madani had visited
Hyderabad with the assistance of Sainuddeen.

At the same time,
sources in the PDP denied all these reports saying all these were
merely allegations leveled by some enemies who were receiving help from
a certain political party, which was peeved by the PDP’s cooperation
with the CPI(M) with regard to the election in Ponnani.
