Temples orphanages, Hindus Orphans – HC lambast Govt. for pathetic state of Temples

via HK published on June 1, 2010

Kochi: The only hope left for Hindus in the state , The Judiciary today lambasted state government for being responsible for the sad state of Temples in Kerala which are under Government control. Summarising aptly Kerala High Court observed that Temples in Kerala are like orphanages. Temples under Travancore Devaswom Board are struggling even for day to day activities, this despite huge income generated from temples like Sabarimala.

Corruption within Devaswom Board has now become a common phenomena and the only difference is in how to divide it among various political parties within CPM controlled LDF.The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), has become a centre of corruption and inefficiency under the rule of politicians, Court observed.

Division bench comprising Justice C S Ramachandran Nair and P S Gopinath made these remarks while admitting a petition filed by Devaswom employees against their mass transfer. Bench observed that Travancore Dewaswom board has failed in every aspect in running the temples. Even routine festivals are not conducted and very often devotees resorts Judiciaries intervention to conduct annual temple festivals.

The court said that it liked to see an end to the administration of temple bodies by politicians but this was not possible as per the existing rules. The only solution was that sincere and efficient men should take over the administration but unfortunately, but such men were not being respected by their respective political parties, the court observed. They pointed out that politicians, who became members of the Devaswom board as nominees, had to safeguard the interests of their parties.

Senior BJP leader and former Union minister O Rajagopal welcomed the observations of the court. Talking to newsmen at Kollam, he said the secular governments were seeing temples and temple administration bodies merely as sources of income.

The Political intervention in Temple affairs has become a curse for Hindus in Kerala. People of integrity and devotion were never nominated by Atheist Government as members of the Devaswom Board.

Hindu organisations have been repeatedly urging for the liberation of Hindu temples from the control of Government and to hand it over to devotees. By branding those who advocate liberation of Temples as communalist’s Government instead is trying to capture more and more temples and Hindu Ashrams.

It has been proven over the years that Government’s only interest in temples is not out of their special love towards Hindus worship but out of their interest in the Hindu habit of offering a handsome amount whenever they visit temple.

HK have requested their readers several times earlier not to donate for any temples which are now under Government control. None of the money generated from temples are used by Government for any scheme which benefit poor Hindus. Unfortunately, the only way to liberate these temples are by boycotting the hundials of these Government controlled temples. HK urge all it’s readers to convince their family, friends and relatives to join this silent revolution. Once Temple coffers dry up – These Politicians who are roaming around the hundials will automatically vacate.
