Temples at the Mercy of Devaswom Board

via HK published on December 18, 2007

Kochi: Kerala High Court sought the explanation of Inefficient Trivandrum Devaswom Board regarding delay in granting money for conducting Uthsavams in Temples. Board should submit their explanation by Wednesday.

The infighting among Devaswom Board members is the excuse for not conducting Board meetings to take decisions on granting the amount for conducting the yearly Temple Festivals.

There are 1208 Temples under TDB, as per rule inorder to conduct the Festivals the Temple management should get permission from Devaswom Board. Devaswom Board which have a flawless mechanism to collect Devotees Money from Temple is running away from their responsibilities when coming to granting money for the day to day activities of the Temples.

The case is filed by Ravindran Pillai of Kozhinjanellor Kshetra Samrakshana Samithi. Due to present confusion in Devaswom Board many Temples are not getting the grants and the petitioner prayed Court’s intervention to direct the Board Members to conduct Board meetings every two weeks.

These Board Members have only interest in income generating Temples like Sabarimala and Guruvayur , rest of the Temples are at the mercy of these Devaswom Board.
