Success of Guruji birth centenary celebrations takes Kerala’s political and media circles by surprise

via HK Correspondent published on December 17, 2006

The massive celebrations taking place in Kerala on the occasion of Guru Golwalkar Birth Centenary is worrying the leftist political parties, especially CPM, and the media bosses in Kerala.

Though they dare not to say anything openly, they accept privately that the celebrations show the ground support for the Sangh Parivar in Kerala. All Sangh Parivar organizations in Kerala are fully engaged in making the events a grand success. Though Kerala’s entire visual/print media blacked out the celebrations, the Sangh Parivar succeeded in bringing huge numbers of people for all the functions.

The success of the celebrations is more worrying for the daily newspaper Mathrubhoomi which is engaged in circulating untruthful information about the Sangh Parivar through a series of articles. Recently RSS leader Ram Mohan met the chief editor of Mathrubhumi and warned him of legal action if the paper continued to publish similar articles against the Sangh Parivar.

However, the Sangh’s senior leaders are not at all surprised or worried about the behaviour of Kerala’s media. A Sangh leader recently told HK correspondent that: “We are not surprised about the behaviour of the media because they are following the same policies for the last several years. We are not concerned whether they give media coverage or not for the events”.

Regarding the Mathrubhumi’s claim that the Sangh’s Rashtra Raksha Sanchalanam (National Security Marathon) was not upto the expectations, he said, “If we would have approached the concerned authorities, the Rashtra Raksha Sanchalan would have come in the Guinness Book of World Records, it was such a unique program. We have already released the VCD of the Sanchalanam, anyone can watch it and assess whether there is any truth in Mathrubhumi’s claim.”

According to sources, some Leftist leaders and Left-supported intellectuals were surprised to see the presence of Congress, RSP and other party leaders, prominent journalists and intellectuals at various functions organized on the occasion of Guruji birth centenary celebrations. Most surprisingly, a few of those who attended the functions used to criticize the Sangh Parivar earlier.

Guruji birth centenary celebrations are in their last phase in Kerala. Various intellectual and media seminars were conducted in all districts and taluks and it is still going on. A number of functions were organized by inviting all caste-based organizations in Kerala in all districts. Though the top leaders of major caste-based organizations like NSS and SNDP did not attend the functions, their district, taluk and panchayat leaders came for many programs.  RSS has conducted a massive campaign to increase participation in its Shakhas. Meetings of college students were organized in more than 150 taluks of Kerala, which were attended by more than 15,000 students.

The Guruji birth centenary celebrations in Kerala will conclude with massive Hindu Maha Sammelans in all districts and taluks from January 15 to February 15. The taluk and district sammelans will be attended by 5,000 to 8,000 and 35,000 to 40,000 people respectively. Various national leaders of the Sangh Parivar including Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi are expected to attend the function.
