A statue of Goddess Saraswati, which donned the prime place in the premises of Saraswati Vidyaniketan in Onnaammile, Kumili has been vandalized. According to sources, a group of miscreants stormed the school premises at night and wrecked havoc. The statue was found with its head and hands severed off.

Reacting to the incident, various Hindu organizations have voiced dissent and registered their protest against the matter.

According to school authorities, there has been a record increase in the number of admissions in Saraswati Vidyalaya, when compared to other schools in Onnaammile. “This could have led to feelings of jealousy and animosity , which could have led to anti- social elements  into committing this crime.”.

Hindu leaders have expressed apprehensions over the incident, asserting that this is the handiwork of anti-nationals who want to flag off communal dissent.

Kumili witnessed strong remonstrations and public meetings by various groups of Sangh Parivar. The public address was inaugurated by Swami Devachaitanya.
