Special Revaluation to make SFI leader a Degree holder

via HK published on September 30, 2007

Thiruvananthapuram:To make a SFI leader a  M.Ed degree holder, Kerala University plan to do  a 5th  time reevaluation of the answer sheet. This is an unusal incident ever in the academic history of the university. The  alleged SFI leader is a former councilor of Mar theophilos training college and wife of ex-district president  SFI Trivandrum.

M.Ed PG Degree course has 2 papers and each require a minimum pass mark of 30 marks. The SFI leader was able to secure only 24 marks. As per Kerala Unversity rules and regulations for PG course, results are officially declared after 2 rounds of valuation. The revaluation requests are not applicable for PG course since they have already done 2 rounds of valuation.

To help this SFI leader, a CPM syndicate leader demanded a reevaluation in a syndicate meeting but the move failed due to opposition from other members. After this move failed, the SFI leader approached court and got a favourable verdict. University didn’t oppose this move in court and allowed a favorable ruling for the SFI leader. As per university norms, to maintain confidentiality the answer papers for revaluation are sent in bundles. In this “special case” all 56 candidates papers were sent for revaluation and everyone got 10- 35 marks hiked to ensure our leader get a M.Ed degree.

University officials got in to trouble as they need to award marks to everyone including ones who didn’t apply for revaluation. Syndicate discussed this issue and agreed to award marks only to the SFI leader after doing one more evaluation. Now universitiy plan to  take action against the teachers who did a wrong valuation which was corrected by 10-30 mark hikes in the revalution or award marks to every student taking the  responsibility of a irresponsible evaluation.. Instead they are trying to close the case by ignoring all other students and just awarding the SFI leader the marks she need to pass.

Kerala university rules clearly say that PG courses are not eligible for revaluation. Last year when a similar incident happened for another student in PG tourism course his request for revaluation was turned down by syndicate and instead they asked him to reappear for the paper he failed.
