KOCHI: SNDP Yogam will open coffee shops at its shakhas to provide employment for educated youngsters in the state, said SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappalli Natesan.

He said that the coffee shops would provide clean and tasty food for its customers at a cheap rate.

Vellappalli said that SNDP Yogam had entered into an agreement with an American company to initiate vegetable cultivation in the state. Seeds, fertilisers and financial assistance will be given to interested individuals to start cultivation and their products will be procured at a decent price, he said. He said that this would help farmers fetch a high price for their products by reducing the role of middlemen.

Natesan said that both the projects would be initiated with the assistance of Dhanalakshmi Bank. The bank has promised loans without collateral security, he said.

At a ‘meet-the-press’ programme organised here, Natesan said that the SNDP Yogam was not satisfied with the performance of the LDF Government. “We anticipated better governance, now we feel dejected,” he said.

Vellappalli said the SNDP Yogam would oppose the Malabar Devaswom Board Bill in its present form. “We are for fixing minimum wages for the temple employees and priests, but the proposal to take over the Guru Mandirams will be strongly opposed,” he said.

He said the SNDP Yogam was not against any kind of inquiry into the allegations of corruption in Travancore Devaswom Board.
