SNDP opposes minority status to Pushpagiri colleges

SNDP and NSS, have opposed the decision of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions to accord minority status to all the five self-financing colleges under the Christian Church-controlled Thiruvalla-based Pushpagiri management.


Close on the heels of the NSS objection to the award of the status aired on Thursday, the SNDP Yogam has expressed it displeasure over the Commission’s decision.


The Yogam said on Friday that it was time to reconsider the process of conferring minority status on institutions of religious communities in Kerala, Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan said.


Opposing the Commission’s decision, Natesan told reporters here that if the trend continued Hindu community would lag behind in the education sector. He said SNDP fully agreed with the NSS stand that Pushpagiri colleges should not have been granted minority status.


NSS general secretary PK Narayana Panicjer had on Thursday said in Kollam that educational institutions under the Pushpaigiri management should not be accorded minority status.
