Close on the heels of the decision by the Catholic Church to launch a campaign against “Love Jehadis”, some radical Islamist groups allegedly specializing in converting girls of other religions into Islam after trapping them in love affairs, the mighty SNDP Yogam, the organization of Ezhava community Hindus, is preparing for taking steps against these groups.

SNDP YOgam general secretary Vellappally Natesan said in Changanassery on Sunday that he had proof of “Love Jehadis” trapping girls from the Ezhava community. He specified the case of two girls who fell in love with young Muslim men to prove his point.

Natesan said that the SNDP Yogam would take strong action against the “Love Jehadis”. Asked whether he was sure that such conversions were being made by Love Jehadis, he said Intelligence reports and even court directives gave indications in this direction. He added that the Yogam’s meeting at Cherthala, Alappuzha on Thursday would discuss the issue.

Sources in the Special Branch of the Kerala Police said that the reports about the groups of Leve Jehadis and the efforts of more and more organizations and religious groups to oppose them were worsening their concerns about possibility of violence. They said they were watching the developing scenario closely.

The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Conference (KCBC), the umbrella organization of all the bishops of the Catholic rites of Kerala, had last week said they would start awareness campaigns to teach Christian girls and parents about the dangers of the “holy war of love” by certain Islamic groups.

The KCBC sprang into action against the Love Jehadis as one of the two girls of a Pathanamthitta college who were forcibly converted into Islam through the trap of love by two Muslim youths was a Christian. Also, there were reports of even Christian housewives with children were being converted into Islam through rites held at Ponnani in the Muslim-majority Malappuram district.

In an article in Jagratha, the publication of KCBC’s Commission for Social Harmony and Vigilance, its secretary Fr Johny Kochuparambil had written that Love Jehad was a new war front opened by international Islamist extremists who want to use any available strategy to make Muslims the majority in the world. “For this, Love Jehadis accepted the strategy of spreading the pollen of hypocritical love on the campuses,” Fr Kochuparampbil said.
