SFI leader held for ragging

The Kalamassery area vice president of the SFI and the Kalamassery Government polytechnic chairman Shaiju Shamsudeen was arrested by the police in a ragging case in the polytechnic.

Two junior students Sabarinath and Sandeep had complained that they were tortured and was forced to have lewd gestures by a gang of senior students.

They had identified Shiju Shamsudeen as one of the culprits. The police charged him as the eighth accused in the case.

The first accused Jansheer has taken anticipatory bail after appearing directly before the court .

SFI district secretary Lijo Jose told reporters that Shiju Shamsudeen was expelled from the organisation and the polytechnic unit of the SFI dissolved.

The SFI which is preaching high moral grounds in campuses in ragging related incidents had egg on its face following the incident

However, sources in the police told The Pioneer that there was strong intervention from political higher ups following the arrest of Shiju and there was pressure on the police not to register his arrest. The police have recorded his arrest.

Kalamassery Sub Inspector of Police TR Jiju and constables Jude and Shabu were the ones who arrested Shiju.
