KOZHIKODE: “It is a victory of our principled stand against the NDF and we will continue the campaign with added vigour,” said K M Shaji, who has been elected the new state president of the Muslim Youth League, on Sunday.

“My promotion to the post of the president is a recognition of the line the committee has been following all along. The rank and file of our organisation expects more from us,” Shaji told this website’s newspaper.

He said the organisation would also launch agitation against the anti-people policies of the LDF. “We could not concentrate on agitations as we were preoccupied with organisational polls,” he said.

Shaji?s elevation to the new post is the culmination of a protracted battle he fought within and outside his party.

Shaji became the bete-noire of the Kunhalikutty faction in the IUML since he crossed swords with the leader after the last Assembly elections.

Shaji and P.M. Sadiquali, the new MYL treasurer, spoke strongly against Kunhalikutty at the IUML working committee meeting held at Kottakkal which stripped Kunhalikutty of the general secretary post.
