THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress-led UDF opposition staged a walkout in the state assembly today, charging the CPM & LDF government with running away from holding a discussion over 10 million bribe case.

Accordingly to sources, the CPI (M) party secretariat, comprising Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan were among took the decision to expel K Venugopal, Marketing Deputy General Manager & CPM senior leader from the party.

Venugopal had taken Rs. one crore as bribe from a Kochi based financial institution called LIS to sort out a case after the firm became defunt. Venugopal took Rs one crore to hush-up the case against the firm.

Accordingly to political analysts, Venugopal would not have accepted such a huge amount without the knowledge of higher-ups in the party.

The continued silence of CPM on this issue is quite surprised by the political circle in Kerala.
