The society in general and the historians in particular should understand and accept the contributions made by the “Vanavasi community” to the country’s Freedom struggle, according to Dr C I Issac, State Working President of the the Bharatiya Vicharakendram.

He was inaugurating the second centenary celebrations of Thalakkal Chandu’s martyrdom at Panamaram in Kerala’s Wayanad district. Dr Issac said that during the period from 1789 to 1848 nine Vanavasi groups participated in the freedom struggle of the country. But it still remains unknown to many.

By bringing together all the sections of the community for building up an army to fight against the British colonialists, the Great Pazhassi Raja had played an important role towards Hindu unity, he added.

These realities were not included in the history books of the country as the historians of independent India were more interested in distorting truth, he alleged.
