Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Reservation:Mass Struggles Ahead

via HK published on June 19, 2008

Kozhokode: Any attempt to snatch away
the constitutionally guaranteed reservation to Scheduled castes and Scheduled
Tribes will be opposed with all our might ,warns Peoples Forum organized by the
SC-ST Reservation Protection Samithi.

Various SC-ST organizations
participated in the ‘Peoples Collective against Denial of Justice’ meeting
held at Gujarathi Hall,Kozhikode .

The move by the Central Government to
extend reservation benefits to Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims is against
the spirit of the reservation .This move is also against Supreme Court verdict
which clearly states that no reservation should be given to the people
converted to other religions. SC ST Reservation is provided to socially uplift
the Scheduled castes and Tribes and this provision was made part of the
constitution with the  efforts of the great leader Dr.B.R. Ambedkar .

The recommendations of the
Sachar-Paloli committees are detrimental to the interests of the SC-ST Community.
3000 SC/ST students are loosing their opportunity every year for higher
education due to the policy of the government that no reservation is to be
given in the Minority controlled education institutions.

The meeting has demanded to the
government that attempt to include people from other religions in the SC/ST
should be abandoned, SC/ST Reservation should be retained in all educational
institutions in Kerala and Sachar-Paloli committee recommendations should not
be implemented. The meeting has also decided to undertake mass agitation to
force government to implement these demands.

“As a result of the pressure from the
organized minorities and to get their votes, the Central government is trying
to stop the reservation for the Scheduled castes and Scheduled tribes”, said
Dr.Sathyanarayana Jathiya, Former Cabinet Minister and SC/ST Morcha All India
President. Mass agitation will also held in Delhi against central government’s
appeasement polices, he added.

Pattika Jaathi Pattika Varga Samvarana
Samrakshana Prakshobha Samithi , State Chairman M K Kunjol presided over the
meeting. Former Central Minister O.Rajagopal, Mannan-Vannan Samudaya Sangham

Samvarana Samrakshana Prakshobha Samithi Convener PN Velayudhan and BJP State
Vice President V.Muraleedharan spoke on the occasion. Representatives from 52
organisations presented their papers and participated in the discussions.

It is the Congress-Marxist leadership
that is trying to snatch away the constitutionally guaranteed reservation
benefits to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, said BJP State President
PK Krishnadas addressing the concluding session of the meeting. Reception

said the vote of thanks.
