The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the state government is deliberately neglecting those belonging to scheduled castes and tribes by denying them their constitutional rights. Lashing at the state government for shamelessly denying the special concession meant for backward communities, the BJP accused the government of depositing the same in the pockets of those belonging to minority communities, on the sly.

Inaugurating the Secretariat march organized by SC-ST Morcha , BJP state president V Muraleedharan said, “What should rightfully go to members of backward communities are being handed over by the government to members of the minority community, on the sly. People belonging to certain communities stand at financially elevated level and continue to grab benefits from the government under the label of ‘minorities’. But those belonging to the scheduled castes and tribes do not get what is rightfully theirs even.”

Pointing out how the UDF and LDF took turns in hoodwinking the people, Muraleedharan said that the Marxists were crafty enough in approaching members of backward communities when elections draw near. “But when they assume power, they do nothing for them,” he said.

Referring to the current UDF government, Muraleedharan accused them of being bountiful to minority communities, to ensure victory in polls. “The entire education sector has been written off for Christian and Muslim communities. They have neglected the plight of those of scheduled castes and tribes. They have sabotaged reservation in areas of job security programs.Even the schemes initiated by Central government have not been implemented by Kerala government. Take the case of university appointments- there are mammoth discrepancies. A stage has come where these people have been forced to stage protests seeking their rights,” he said, warning the government that they need not be under the opinion that those of backward communities are orphans.

Seeking to know why the government had such abhorrence towards members of the backward communities, Muraleedharan pointed out how the state has, till now, not bothered to erect a memorial in the name of former Indian President Late KR Narayanan, who happened to be from Kerala.
