SC, ST demand representation on Devasom Boards
Even as the controversy over the corruption charges is hotting up with the major Hindu communities, the Nairs and the Ezhavas are firing veiled attacks among each other, the other backward class Hindus have come out openly questioning the policy of the government on the constitution of the Board.
Expressing their displeasure, the SC, ST Federation Secretary, Mr Krishnan Kutty alleged that there were provisions in the rules that the SC ST and other backward Hindus should have representation in the Devaswom Boards. In the Cochin Devaswom Board there is a member belonging to the SC while in the TDB there has not been any member from the ST or ST, he alleged.
Questioning the government’s practice to constitute the TDB with people from the NSS and the SNDP, Mr Kummanam Rajasekharan, Organising Secretary, Hindu Aikya Vedi said that the contributions from the backward people was the major source of revenue of the Board and hence the SC ST should be given proportionate representation on the Devaswom Boards.
