Samudra Puja in connection with the Makara Sankranti was held in the coastal villages of Kerala today.


It is being celebrated as a social festival of the fishing workers under the auspices of the Bharatiya Matsya Pravartaka Sangh.


The festival is the revival of the ancient traditions of the fishing community in the coastal villages of India. Samudra Puja and rituals and festivals at the temples in the coastal belt were being conducted in ancient times, Mr N P Radhakrishnan, Matsya Pravarthaka Sangh State General Secretary pointed out.
