Sabarimala Pilgrims being fleeced

SABARIMALA: Thousands of pilgrims who opt the traditional Azhutha- Karimala-Valianavattam route for darsan at the Sabarimala temple are being fleeced by hoteliers and shopkeepers.

Absence of Government agencies to monitor the functioning of business establishments on this route run by eco-development committees (EDCs) is forcing the pilgrims to pay exorbitant prices for food items.

Spread over Kottayam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta, the hoteliers are taking advantage of the absence of government agencies.

A section of Forest Department officials are allegedly in collusion with the hoteliers and shopkeepers.
