Sabarimala: Heavy traffic upsets e-queue system

Those who are finding it difficult to access the online queue-coupon booking system introduced by the Kerala police for the Sabarimala darshan, should not lose heart.

This happens due to the heavy traffic on the site www.sabarimala.keralapolice.gov and will ease in time.

However, applicants should also make sure they provide all data as required such as the photo in the prescribed size.

“We have introduced this facility on an experimental basis and have only the basic infrastructure to run the system. The server that we have acquired does not have a big capacity but considering the current bookings, we understand that it is running without too much problem,” said Additional Director General of Police P. Chandrasekharan.

He said once the High Court had given permission, “we launched the system without waiting for the ideal situation.” But now that it has become a success, the police propose to introduce a bigger capacity server next time to tackle the rush.

Though devotees are finding it difficult to upload photos, Mr Chandrasekharan said that the photo was mandatory to avoid manipulation by unscrupulous elements. He emphasised that the photos must conform to the specified size.

Experts point out that the Kerala police should either get the backing of a cloud computing network or a content delivery system like Akamai and Amazon to manage the rush, if they are not able to secure a strong server immediately.

Mr Chandrasekharan said in the years to come they propose to completely replace the traditional way of coming to Sabarimala with the e-booking system and thus streamline the whole trekking process.
