Kochi: The Kerala unit of the RSS will take out a state-wide march, ‘rashtra raksha sanchalan’, from January five to 26 to highlight various security threats facing the nation.

Addressing a press conference here, RSS state unit secretary Mohan said that nearly 10,000 people would participate in the march, from Bekal fort in the northern Kasargod district to East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram.

The march is being conducted as a forerunner to birth centenary celebrations of PP Madhava Sadashivarao Golwalkar, the second leader of RSS, who is known as Guruji among RSS circles.

”The aim of the march is to spread awareness among the people about the various security threats faced by the people and to make them vigilant against them,” he added

The march would cover 700 kilometres in 20 days and would consist of band units from each district. Band units in each district will take over the march and cover the district, with each band marching around five kilometres, said Mr Mohanan.

Twenty large-scale public meetings and several smaller meetings will be held throughout Kerala during the days of the march, the RSS leader said. A torch will be lighted from the resting place of Pazhassi Raja at Mananthavady and this will be carried all through the march as Rashtra Raksha Jyothi, he said. The Jyothi will be welcomed by people in main junctions on the way of the march, he added.

Nearly 5,000 members of band units from all over the State and RSS activists of Thiruvananthapuram would meet in six processions at the concluding meeting at Thiruvananthapuram and they will be addressed by Mr Bhagwat on Republic Day evening, he said.
