Eight CPM men get seven-yr jail term for murder | |

A Thalassery court on Wednesday awarded seven years’ rigorous imprisonment to eight Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers in a charge of an attempt to murder on RSS district leader at Uruvachal township in 1994.
Thalassery Principal Assistant Sessions Judge VP Jayanandan, while announcing the order, also slapped a fine of Rs 2,00,000 on the eight convicted Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers who inflicted grievous injuries on RSS Jilla Saha Karyavahak, P Sadanandan, also a primary school teacher.
Under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder), the court awarded seven years’ jail term along with a fine of Rs 20,000 each to all the convicted, who included an school teacher.
And under the Indian Penal Code Section 326 (causing injuries using deadly weapons), the convicted will have to suffer five years in jail and have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 each, the court said.
However, the two sentences would run concurrently, the court said. The court acquitted four others for want of “solid evidences” in connection with the murder attempt case.
The RSS leader’s both legs got severed in the attack.
He was leaving for his home from the Uruvachal township around 8.30 pm on January 25, 1994, when he was attacked with deadly weapons by the convicted in a bid to settle political scores.
