The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has deplored in strong terms the brutal and inhuman attack by mobs of hooligans on hapless Hindus on February 19 in different areas of South 24-Parganas district.

In a strongly worded statement issued here by the West Bengal RSS Prant Karyawah  Dr Tilakranjan Bera on the tragic incidents in the Canning area of South 24 Parganas district, the RSS took strong exception of this massive and mindless attack which left 750 Hindu families of Nadiakhali area under the Canning police station in the most pitiable condition.

The attack highlighted the ‘lethal consequences’ of appeasement of the fundamentalist among the minorities by the state and central government, the statement said and demanded stern action against the perpetrators.

Equally condemning the killing of a Muslim cleric whose death sparked the series of mass and brutal attacks on the Hindus in the locality, the RSS said that SI Anup Samadder of Canning PS and a CRPF Jawan Sanjay Singh were injured in this attack and admitted to hospital with multiple injuries.

The rampaging mob attacked Hindu houses, plundered them, burnt them, and molested their women. At least five Hindu women were molested by the attackers at Kholakhali near Joynagar Police Station. The mob further  gheroed the Canning Police Station.

Train services were also disturbed because of this violence and trains on Sealdah-Canning route were stopped.

Demanding that the Hindus be adequately compensated for their losses, the RSS wanted the state government to enquire as to how and from where such large number of people gathered there and mobilized attacks against the Hindus.

Lambasting at the media for not highlighting the plight of the Hindus, the RSS said that the media failed to project the plight of Hindus in this troubled area.
