Rightists and Leftists to fight jointly against ‘Aranmula Airport-Land’ Mafia under Sugathakumari Teacher

Aranmula: Forgetting petty political differences, a huge movement is taking shape in Aranmula to take up the evil forces who have the blessings of UPA Govt. in converting vast amount of paddyfields and wetlands into a private Airport.

Kummanam Rajasekhran who spearheaded the movement to protect this ‘Heritage Village’ got immense support from people and organisations from various quarters. Many Socio- Politico- Environmental organisations are now joining up together to intenify the agitation against this ‘Airport’ mafia.

Renowned poetress Sugathakumari will lead the agitation with support  from Rightists and Leftists for a common cause.In the upcoming meeting protestors are expecting many prominent leaders like  V.S. Achuthanandan, Pannian Ravindran, CPI State secretary; V. Muraleedharan, BJP State president; V.M. Sudheeran, Congress leader; T.M. Thomas Isaac and Mullakkara Ratnakaran, former Ministers; K. Muraleedharan, and T.N. Prathapan along with other MLA’s who haven’t yet took the bait from ‘Airport Mafia’.

This historic struggle is against the ‘Evil forces and the Political Might’ told  Sugathakumari teacher while addressing the meeting held in front of the ‘Kavvu’ (Sacred Grove) in her family home Vazhuvelil Tharavadu.

Kummanam Rajashekharan, Thiruvaranmula Pairthruka Grama Karma Samiti chief patron; Mullakaran Ratnakaran former Minister; V.S. Vijayan, former Kerala State Biodiversity Board chairman; Gopalankutty Master, RSS State chief P.R.Sasidharan, Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad State vice-president; T.K.G. Nair, A. Padmakumar, R.Ajyakumar, CPI(M) leaders; K. Surendran and R. Umakanthan, BJP State-level leaders; P. Prasad, CPI district secretary; Usha of ‘Thanal’ environmental organisation; Thomas Joseph of RSP; and V.N. Gopinatha Pillai and K.A.Varghese, Kerala River Protection Council leaders, were among those who addressed the meeting.

The participants later visited the landless families attached to the Kerala Karshaka Sanghom who have been staging agitation by pitching sheds at the illegally converted paddy land at the Aranmula Puncha. As many as 300 families have been camping in make-shift tents at the converted land for the past two months.Addressing the Karshaka Sanghom families there, Ms. Sugathakumari announced the joint action council’s support to their struggle.
