The National Teachers Union (NTU) Kerala State President, Mr P Gopalankutty Master, has demanded that the Education portfolio should be taken away from the Muslim League as under its influence the public education scenario in the state is faced with dangerous threats.

He said that the nationalist vision and patriotism which were to be necessarily inculcated and sustained through education had been sabotaged. The education in the state has been relegated to a mere commercial business because of its handling by the religious-political parties having no nationalist volition or feeling, he alleged.

To resolve the crisis to some extent national parties should handle the education portfolio in the state, he demanded.

The 3-day state conference of the NTU (Desiya Adhyapaka Parishad) which began at Mavelikara today would have discussions on resolutions such as â€œremoval of education portfolio from Muslim League and liberate education from the clutches of obsolete volitions of Marxism” , he said.
