Rapist Catholic Priest Absconds

A Catholic priest, who had allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl at the church, fled the village after a case was slapped against him by the Ollur police in Thrissur the other day.

The police suspect the accused, Fr Raju Kokkan, 40, vicar of the St Paul’s (Roman Catholic) Church at Thaikkattussery, might have left the state.

R Sujithkumar, Ollur sub-inspector, said the police have issued a lookout notice against him who has been missing since Thursday evening, he said.

The incident came to light when the girl revealed the entire episode to her parents on Wednesday.

The police registered a case against him under Section 376 (1) of the IPC, Section 66 (a)of the IT Act and Section 4 of the Protection of Infants from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, among other provisions in the IPC.
