Thiruvananthapuram:Prominent personalities on Wednesday condemned the SFI attack on Unnikrishnan, a lecturer at the Government Sanskrit College here, for coming to the college with a rakhi tied on his wrist.

“Rakhi, which gives the message of fraternal love and patriotism, is also a symbol of nationalism. ‘Raksha Bandhan’ festival begins by tying a rakhi on the arms of the President and the Prime Minister. The attack by students, backed by whatever organisation, is an infringement on the rights of the lecturer and should be condemned,” a joint statement issued by Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri, Sugathakumari, B Hridayakumari, N Paramasivan Nair, Kainakari Janardhanan, KR Nandakumar and J Ramachandran Nair, said.

The incident occurred on Monday and Unnikrishnan had lodged a complaint with the college principal.
