Morcha against minority status

Thrissur: The Bharatheeya Janata Scheduled Caste Morcha has protested against the National Minority Commission’s granting minority-status to professional educational institutions run by the minority community in the State.

Morcha state unit president Ravi Veliyathunadu told reporters here that granting minority status to several educational institutions would lead to undermining the reservation rights of scheduled castes and tribes.

Of a total of 143 professional educational institutions in the State, minority status had been granted to about 120 institutions, he said.

The Morcha’s State committee would hold agitations against the reported move of including the Dalit Christians and Muslims in the Scheduled Caste’s list.
