Probe sought against ex-minister on girls’ death
PNS | Kozhikode

A court in Kozhikode on Thursday accepted a petition seeking investigation into the alleged involvement of former minister and Muslim League general secretary PK Kunhalikutty in the circumstances that led to the death of two 17-year-old girls in the city in 1996. Kunhalikutty is already accused of involvement in the infamous ice cream parlour sex abuse scandal.

Petitioner Adhul Azeez, State secretary of the National Secular Conference, submitted before the court that the death of the girls had connections with the ice cream parlour sex racket, allegedly run by Sreedevi, who was a key accused in the case related to it. The petitioner sought naming of Kunhalikutty and Sreedevi as first and second accused respectively in the case.

The petition was prepared on the basis of information provided by the relatives of the two girls, Sunaina and Sibana. The bodies of the girls, both pre-degree students of the MES Women’s College, Kozhikode, were seen on the railway tracks in the city on October 29, 1996. As per the police, the girls could have ended their lives by jumping in front of a rushing train.

On the basis of allegations of mystery behind the deaths, the Kerala Police had registered a case on the incident but the probe remained inconclusive. The allegation then was that the girls had died after they fell into the trap of the ice cream parlour sex racket. The girls had died just when the ice cream parlour sex scandal was raging in Kerala.

The petitioner also presented a CD containing voice records of talks containing references allegedly to Kunhalikutty’s involvement in the incidents that led to the girls’ death. As per the recordings, the girls had committed suicide perturbed by blackmailing by Sreedevi, who had allegedly lured them into the racket by giving them drugs and then taking their pictures in compromising postures.

Kunhalikutty is already facing a probe by a special team of the Kerala Police headed by ADGP Vincent M Paul over the new revelations about his efforts to hush up the ice cream parlour sex abuse case by threatening and bribing the victims and witnesses and earning favorable court verdicts by bribing judges.

Kunhalikutty, de-facto chief executive of the Muslim League, second largest constituent of the Congress-led UDF, is most likely to contest in the Vengara constituency in Muslim-majority Malappuram district in the April 13 Assembly polls.
