Post-poll BJP reworks strategy in State

Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to make changes in policies and strategies in the context of the setback suffered by the party in the recently held Assembly poll.

BJP spokesman BK Sekhar said on Thursday that the decision to effect such changes was taken at the party’s national executive meeting.

State BJP president PS Sreedharan Pillai had presented the report on the election result at the national executive. The observation was that it had been very difficult to score a victory when the two fronts, LDF and UDF remained strong.

The report said that intense efforts at the organisational level could not bring in much advantage and in this context a policy change was necessary. A meeting to discuss a course of action based on this report will be held in Kerala, Sekhar said.

Senior leaders like Venkiah Naidu and L Ganesh will take part in the meeting. Sekhar said that organisational elections in the BJP would be held in three months, and that Sreedharan Pillai would resign as Kerala BJP president.

The BJP constitution stipulates that a person who had once served as president should not contest for the post again. Sekhar said that the time-table for the election would be announced by the party’s central leadership. Distribution of new memberships would start on June 12, he said.
