Poll preparations to begin this month: Kerala BJP
Kannur, Wednesday 05 May 2010: BJP State president V. Muraleedharan has said that the party’s preparations for the coming local body elections in the State will get under way this month.
The party’s preparations for the elections would begin this month at the Assembly constituency-level to evaluate its prospects in panchayats, municipalities and corporations.
The exercise would be completed by May 16, he said, adding that State and district leaders of the party would visit the panchayats during the month.
A meeting of the party’s State-level office bearers would be held in June last to finalise the strategy for the election, he said.
He demanded that Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan expel Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan from the Cabinet for ‘protecting’ suspended IG Tomin J. Thachankary.
The affidavit filed by the government in court termed Thachankary as a ‘shady’ character, he said. The government owed an explanation why an officer facing serious allegations was posted as IG in Kannur. This could not have been possible without the patronage of the Home Minister, Muraleedharan said.
