Police, IB on look out for evangelists, godmen minting money with spirituality

After the arrest of Santhosh Madhavan the police is on the look out for godmen and Christian evangelists who are minting money by selling spirituality. The police has already conducted a search in the premises of the Ashram of Himaval Bhadrananda Swami, who is another self-styled godman in Kochi and claiming to have several top level contacts.

The Kochi police on Thursday raided the premises of the Ashram but told the Press that the Swami was not present. The swami has in his website claimed that several top political personalities were his disciples or associated with him.

In the website Karma.com, the Swami claims to have conducted prayers for State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who was reeling under several issues after assuming office as the Minister. The Swami claims that he has predicted that Kodiyeri would get the coveted portfolio of Vigilance along with Home Ministry.

Himaval Bhadrananda also said that he had conducted prayers for Opposition leader Oomen Chandy and claimed that the former Chief Minister was happy at the meeting. He also claims that Chandy had introduced him to Kodiyeri.

Swami also said that he had told Panniyan Ravindran that he would become a Member of Parliament and this has happened. Himaval Bhadrananda Swami had also claimed that he had successfully predicted the occurance of Tsunami waves in the land.

In his website the Swami further says that he had conducted some prayers for Ramesh Chennithala and has relieved him of his disturbances which were creating problems for him.

Sources in the DRI told The Pioneer that the department has started investigations into the route of money transferred by the god men and controversial evangelists.

The DRI it is learnt has started investigation into the property details of an evangelist in central Kerala and that the department has unearthed some important documents during the investigation pertaining to the property transactions of the evangelist.

The department it is learnt is also in the process of conducting study into the purchase of estates and other properties by a Thiruvalla based Church congregation and is investigating whether this evangelist group is acting on behalf of anti-national elements.

There are also reports of a Left group having alerted the police on the under rating of registration details of the property purchased by the Thiruvalla based evangelist. Sources in the Left group however told The Pioneer that they were disgusted at the attitude shown by the police in cracking the case.
