Kochi, Nov 20
The Kerala police, which is firm on enforcing the ban on beggars on Sabarimala trekking path from Pampa to Sannidhanam during the current pilgrimage season, has arrested 25 beggars from the Neelimala area and remanded them to jail for 15 days.
According to police sources at Pampa 22 of the 25 arrested are from Tamil Nadu.
The government has given special instructions to the police to enforce the ban strictly in the area as large number of beggars lining up on the narrow and steep trekking path from Pampa would hinder the movement of the pilgrims. Besides, these people brought by contractors from bordering states alleged to have contagious diseases also.
